The MacLachlan clan is headed by the Clan Chief, Euan Maclachlan of Maclachlan from his seat at Castle Lachlan on the shores of Loch Fyne in Argyll on the West Coast of Scotland. The clan motto, 'Fortis et Fidus', means 'Brave and Trusty'.
The Clan MacLachlan Society was founded in 1979 and now has over 1200 members world-wide, spread over a number of branches. The parent society produces a bi-annual magazine, ‘Clan Lachlan’, which publishes a variety of articles of interest to Clan members as well as a comprehensive family history. The branches all produce their own local newsletters and organise events and gatherings. MacLachlans of all spellings are welcome to join the Society, as are septs of the Clan Gilchrists and MacEwens.
The Britain and Ireland branch produces its own bi-annual newsletter, 'Lachlan News Roundup' and holds two or three informal gatherings per year in various locations around the British Isles.
The Society's genealogist, Tom McLachlan, holds over 20,000 family history records of MacLachlans and their relatives.
